The practical edit

Write a delivery note someone can use

Clear, short directions can make a complicated entrance easier to understand.

Practical guide · 3 min read

Describe the final few steps

An address identifies a building; a useful note explains the handoff. Mention the correct entrance and an obvious landmark if the location is confusing. “Use the side entrance beside the blue planter” is easier to act on than a long account of every previous delivery.

Keep the instruction current

Review saved instructions when ordering to a new location. A note from an old apartment can be more confusing than no note at all. If the service offers a choice of handoff options, choose the one that matches what you actually need.

Separate directions from requests

Ingredient changes and preparation requests belong in the restaurant’s supported ordering fields, not in the final doorstep note. Whether a change can be accommodated depends on the restaurant. Use its contact channel when something important is unclear.

Protect private details

Share only what is necessary for this delivery. Use the service’s messaging feature for a temporary clarification when available. Keep your phone accessible around the estimated arrival time, and use the order’s support route if the handoff needs to change.
